Abstract
It is widely recognised that the management for protected areas such
as national park face the challenges that exist between conservation
requirements and public expectations. The purpose of this study is to identify
public perception of conserving Similajau National Park and to provide
information to the park management. Factor analysis was used as a data
reduction method. The significant variables are extracted and regrouped
accordingly into several factors that generated a new set of scales. As a result,
25 perceptions that significantly contribute to determining public’s perception
of environmental conservation at the park are derived; the variables are
regrouped into two thematic indicators. The indicators as perceived by the
visitors could be useful for the management in the future conservation of the
national park and the provision of essential services and facilities.
