Coordinator's note
My participation in SEARA Annual Convention and Excursion (SEARA ACE) 2022 was totally unforeseen, and the credit goes to Dr. Hiram Ting and Lenny, aka Kak Lenny, for the opportunity – to be one of the coordinators along with Ms. Nurul.
SEARA has been initiated during the pandemic and has grown into a big family within a short time. For the past two years, SEARANs have been connected virtually despite their locations. The borders reopened, and ICRTH 2022 was the right time for us SEARANs to have our so-called reunion or meet-up for the first time ever. The post-conference event - SEARA ACE, took place from 3-4 September 2022 and focused on some of the hidden gems located in the BAU district, Kuching. SEARANs were brought to witness and experience what nature has to offer.
Personally, it has been a fantastic tour spent with fellow SEARANs - a great opportunity for us SEARANs to network and be better connected (our #MeetSEARA). Thank you, Dr Hiram and team, for the initiative and the arrangements. Thank you, ICRTH 2022, for being the platform for us SEARANs to gain a refreshing perspective in an unforgettable experience. Thank you, fellow SEARANs, for joining SEARA ACE, who traveled from the USA, Australia, Singapore, Brunei, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. Thank you for accommodating our limitations and shortcomings, which are purely unintentional.
Together, we can move forward in a circle of friendship, hope, and trust that bridges Southeast Asia for a better world.
Day one
SEARA ACE 2022 kicked off from Tasik Biru - previously the largest gold mine, Fairy Cave - an impressive nature reserve, then headed to Eco Serembu Park for a welcoming dinner hosted by the local authorities. The dinner was accompanied by the performance of Sarawakian sape living legend Matthew Ngau Jau. Then, SEARANs were brought to Siniawan Night Market before heading to Borneo Keranji Farm for a night stay and continued with Snack Fiesta, where SEARANs brought their local snacks to be shared among the other members. We also had a few games, for example, pass the message, where SEARANs had a good time, and the session was full of laughter.

Day two
The next day, we headed to Paku Rock Maze Garden – a precious karst landform formed after a long geological evolution of the typical Gust landform, Sleeping Beauty - the outline of the mountain resembles the head, chest, and body of a woman sleeping from afar, Maw San Historical Lane – old Bau, then a quick stop at New Buddhist Village before calling it a day.
Thank you
